Writing Time and 'having-a-go'!

Writing for some children can be overwhelming. There is a lot of processing involved and the children are all at different stages of development.

Of course practice makes perfect so we write many times during the day for many different purposes.

Today we were learning about having- a- go and stretching out words. To do this the children say the word slowly and then try to write the letters for the sounds they can hear. It is important to be positive and praise all efforts.

For example: If they were writing the word 'bird' and only wrote the first and last letter of the word, that would be a fantastic have-a-go and I would be excited and praise their effort
Some children may only be able to hear the first letter and that is an exciting achievement also.

We have small whiteboards which are great for the children to experiment on.

We have been learning many sight words in reading and writing and some children are attempting to use these when writing their sentences.
